I'm not sure that the mother is hollow, but if I had something put up there, right? (apparently, so could not see the customers, though)

Could you add the lily in the background? Glue dries clear and then you have no stones. Or you could use the mini-crystals:) We will find a link to ....

It's really trial and error, but I think they will float a little. I like your idea of something heavy in the hollow part of the mother. I know you said you do not want the rocks, but rocks from the river (you can use a bag of them at very low prices at Wal-Mart or craft shop) is really good. You should take a test to try to see if it will change your mind.

Can float. Putty, you can buy in any art museum and craft. It is a super adhesive glue that will be used to hold objects and must be able to work under water.
Otherwise, your idea seems, based on the mother is the best option.
I use the same idea for our reception. I is using white stones (Sorry my English a second language) of the string used in the floor to catch fish. This shows through. I will attach Rockrose and float prevented. LOL, I hope it helped.
