It depends on where you live. If you live in an area that a lot of snow all the time is so tolerant and is ready for the snow gets to live and it would take a snowstorm that closed schools. If you are in an area that rarely receives very little snow and then things live in the neighborhood, people freak and say: "OMG, what is it?" I do not know how to lead and act all silly and local governments unprepared for the snow in the distance, salts and what not to. Depends on what time of day also decreases. When a big storm was expected to be around 3 clock stopped in the morning and it would surprise the people. Many of the test on the morning after shcool administrators, the premises and call the TV stations and whales!

requires the freezing rain for buses to be canceled, you have the ice on the ground when the snow and rain, and very dangerous to drive his car or on foot.

As a rule, at least ... 5?
I do not know.
But it's the snow would have enough to actually make the roads are dangerous. ((At least in my city.))
or because they were not plowed, but the snow is too hard.

It seems that our school does not stop when roads are icy at all .. mainly because the roads. seems that there will be some snow has not ended. We had no school in Michigan, where I am today or yesterday, we are in a snowstorm. for all the snow, which should be today (was a total of 12-18 inches) has not completed school. There are a lot of snow. I do not know if it takes 3 to 6 inches of snow to close, but the ice closes with us. is likely due to your region.

Depending on the situation. I grew up in northwestern Ohio (very flat terrain), the rare snow day. He now lives in the mountains of North Carolina, will my children do not attend school and whether the Department of Transportation says it is too dangerous for buses. We have a lot of snow or ice to cancel.

Does blizzard (Really blizary) and also in the vicinity of the bus when the road is slippery or the sun shines. -25 Celsius, meaning that no school or leisure! - PS This is for Toronto

Good question! Yes. Safe on the basis of the field, including ice, the amount of snow, wind, and how, and above all ... the Superintendent of the decision.
But I agree with other words, nearly 3 inches or more.
Thank you for posting!

There is no amount - it all just depends on road conditions. Sometimes, if the bus companies know that the roads are really bad in the day to announce that is running as if he is able to problems at home boys!

I do not understand why kids want snow day, they are not free. If you are one days from school because of snow and then just do it later, usually by a few days of summer vacation. I prefer to have a sunny day on a snowy day at any time.

Schools never here in Spokane in the vicinity, no matter how shall Snowie. We had 2 feet this year and includes only a half day. The last time it was closed during an ice storm in 1996, cuz that all power is lost.

I think you need like 3 + inches.

and

It also depends on how the roads are icy.

I live in the Chicago area and in my school we have a signed contract with a local company, where plowing school must be stopped if we are more than 5 inches of snow.

It depends on where you live. I live in Indiana and I think it is 6 "here. Kid just depends on how the roads are slippery. If the bus to make their roads and schools will be able to Icey proubley.
You will see on the weather channel for cancellations. One could even ask the head of the school to be safe for future reference.

depending on the region.
But in Canada it must be more than 30 cm and windy.

depending on the snow sticks ... and how early / late starts would like to begin by 1 or 2, and a snow plow can not go with him ... Then you get your Snowday:)
